Welsh Refreshment Housekeeper

Pietro Rengozzi was born in Bardi (Parma) Italy on the 27th July 1882.

He was living at 52 Herbert Street Pontadwe, South Wales with his wife Maria and children James, Joseph, Henry and Maria when he was arrested on the 10th June 1940. He listed his occupation as refreshment housekeeper and café proprietor operating a confectionery and tobacconist business.

Pietro was at Tatura Camp 4B, Victoria when he was notified of his release to return to the UK, pending investigation for his case for release.  On the 5th October 1941, he departed Tatura Camp for Liverpool Camp, New South Wales.  On the 13th October 1941, with nine other UK Italian internees, he boarded the Stirling Castle in Sydney. The journey to Liverpool, England would take him to Auckland, New Zealand and Cristobal, Panama.  He disembarked on the 28th November 1941 and was re-interned on the Isle of Man.

On the 3rd March 1942, Pietro was released from internment under Category 22 of the White Paper: Category 22. Any person as to whom the Tribunal, appointed by the Secretary of State, reported that he had, since childhood or for at least 20 years, lived continuously or almost continuously in Great Britain; had long severed connections with his country of nationality; that his associations and interests were British; and that he was friendly towards this country. Pietro died in Wales on the 19th October 1971.
