Travel Clerk at Selfridges

Giovanni Francesco Bruno was born in Roma, Italy on the 26th December 1907. Rose Bruno, his wife was listed as his next of kin and their address was 22 Northview Tufnell Park Road, London, England.  Giovanni worked for Selfridges in their Travel Bureau as a railway clerk.

He was arrested on the 11th June 1940 and returned to the UK at the end of September 1942.

The letter below stated Giovanni’s acceptance by the Home Secretary to return to England for consideration by the Advisory Committee.  At the time of the notification, he was in Loveday Camp, South Australia and returned to Tatura Camp via Broadmeadows Military Camp arriving at Tatura Camp on the 9th July 1942.

He departed Tatura Camp on the 17th July 1942 with 16 other UK Italian internees. They embarked the SS Themistocles in Sydney and disembarked in Liverpool, England on the 17th October 1942. He continued his internment until his release on the 28th July 1943 to ILB (Italian Labour Battalion?)
