For Pietro Gallo, the trauma of surviving the sinking of the Arandora Star, living in close confines on the Dunera and communal living in barracks took its toll on his health which he outlines to Major Layton in his letter dated April 3rd 1942.
Pietro Gallo’s application for transfer out of an internment camp and to a monastery was not approved.
