Antonio D’Agostino was born in Naples on the 3rd July 1893. He was arrested in London on the 10th June 1940. His mother Maria was listed as his next of kin and lived at Vico Storto San Agostino Scalzi 20, Naples.
In 1911, Antonio lived at 29 Myddelton Street, Clerkenwell, London with his uncle Alfonso Esposito who was a sculptor. Antonio’s occupation was listed as wood carver. In 1939 Agostino lived with Emilio Marini, a wood carver at 23 Lillie Road, Fulham, London.
In Tatura Camp, Antonio might have been a tutor for sculptor classes. His occupation was recorded as sculptor and wood carver. He had worked under his uncle in London who was an architectural wood carver making bespoke pieces for a fine art dealer in London.
Agostino was given an ‘infirm’ classification, exempting him from work in forestry with the Civil Aliens Corps. He was however ‘released on parole’ on the 7th September 1944 to work at Loreto College, Portland.
On the 28th February 1946, Agostino arrived at Southampton, England as a ‘released internee’ on the SS Athlone Castle. The ship’s register listed his address in England as 4 Kings Street, Cherstey, Surrey.
