Lodovico Bertorelli was born on the 24th April 1882 in Bardi (Parma) Italy.  In 1939, Bertorelli and his wife Rosa [Rosina] were living at 39 Charlotte Street, Marylebone, London, England and interestingly Davide Bertorelli and his wife Marcellina lived next door at 37 Charlotte Street.

Lodovico stated his occupation as restauranteur and Davide as restaurant keeper. Davide and Lodovico were brothers; they operated a successful restaurant business known as Bertorelli Bros. in the 1920s and 1930s.

Lodovico Bertorelli was arrested in London on the 11th June 1940. His Australian document listed his next of kin as Rosa living at 23 Charlotte Street, London.

On the 7th September 1944, Lodovico was released from Tatura Camp, Victoria to Sydney.  His sister-in-law Mrs Pagluicci of 181 Palmer Street Sydney was his point of contact who was to assist Lodovico with finding accommodation and employment.

In early February 1945, Lodovico embarked the Athlone Castle which arrived in Liverpool on the 29th March 1945. He returned as a ‘released internee’. His address listed on the ship’s register was 23 Charlotte Street, London and his occupation was listed as restauranteur.
