Referred to as ‘an Italian tailor’, ‘Monsieur Rossi’, ‘creative director’ and ‘genius’, Decio Rossi's passion for fashion was accidental.
His father's career path for Decio was as a jewellery merchant but stones were cold and his attention was drawn to colour, its vibrancy and the feel of fabric.
Initially working for Lady Lucy Duff-Gordon, of Titanic fame at her House of Lucile Ltd. New York and Chicago as head tailor, Decio took over the Paris business from c. 1924 to c. 1930 as its creative director.
His c. 1926 Tea Gown is housed in the Victoria and Albert Museum’s collection of fashion in London.
