In August 1943, Giuseppe Lembo wrote at letter to the Home Office asking permission to be released in Australia to obtain useful work in his field of expertise. He had been a Fruit and Produce Importer, operating a business in London, England and believed he had experience to be better employed within the agricultural sector.

His request was not successful and he was released from internment 'on parole' in July 1944 to work in forestry with the Civil Aliens Corps.
