Luigi Minchella was born in Villa Latina (Frosinone) Italy on the 22nd November 1892. At the time of his arrest on the 10th June 1940, Luigi lived with his wife Maria Christina, his two sons Anthony and Joseph and daughter Virginia at 511 Gallowgate, Glasgow, Scotland.
His occupation was that of a mosaic worker and Luigi had arrived in the UK in 1920 and worked variously for Dover and Gales. In 1921 he settled in Glasgow and worked for Toffolo Jackson and Co. and Zegari.
Luigi was a constant worker as a carpenter in Tatura Camp and at the end of 1943, worked in the kitchen and was not considered to be a security risk.
On the 15th June 1944, Luigi was ‘released on parole’ to work for the mosaic and terrazzo company De Marco Bros. at 118 Ferrars Street, South Melbourne. Six UK Italian internees worked at the same business.
On the 29th March 1945, Luigi disembarked the SS Athlone Castle at Liverpool, England as a ‘released internee’. He died in Toronto Canada on the 17th June 1975.
