Giulio Gamberini was born in San Pietro in Cerro (Piacenza) Italy on the 24th May 1887.  He was living with his wife Giuseppina at 12 Hanson Street, London when he was arrested on the 10th June 1940.

A waiter, Giulio was reported to be an agent for the Italian Fascist government in England.  He applied to the Mixed Medical Commission for repatriation to Italy on the basis of ill health.  However, it was noted that he had never had a day’s sickness nor presented to the Medical Officer in camp for any health issues.

From the 8th March 1944 until the 31st January 1945, Giulio was transferred to Loveday Camp 14D, South Australia.

Giulio arrived in Liverpool, England on the 2nd August 1945 on the Dominion Monarch. The ship departed Melbourne on the 1st July 1945 and travelled via Trinidad.  On board were five other Dunera Italians whose status was still that of ‘internee’ and their address was registered as c/-Home Office London. The ship docked at Liverpool, England on the 2nd August 1945.

Upon return to the United Kingdom, Giulio remained interned and was repatriated to Italy in November 1945.
