Vittorio Di Rollo was born in Roccasecca (Frosinone) Italy on the 14th July 1890. A confectioner, he was arrested on the 10th June 1940 in the police district of East Lothian, Scotland.
He provided the details of his cousin as next of kin: Benedetto Di Rollo, 36 Esplanade Terrace, Portobello, Edinburgh, Scotland.
A notation on his documents recorded ‘Infirm’ 11th September 1944. This meant that he was not suitable for work in the Civil Aliens Corps in forestry.
Instead, Vittorio was released to Melbourne on the 7th September 1944. It was noted that he had sufficient means to support himself and that would apply to the Department of Labour for suitable employment. The Italian liaison officer in Melbourne Mr Vaccari was to assist him to find suitable accommodation.
Vittorio embarked the Athlone Castle with 62 other ‘released internees’ early in February 1945. The ship docked at Liverpool, England on the 29th March 1945. The ship’s register recorded Vittorio’s address as 14 High Street, Haddington, Scotland.
There is a death record for Vittorio Di Rollo of High Street, Haddington in 1946. On the 16th January 1946, Vittorio, aged 55 years, shopkeeper and confectioner died from cardio-vascular degeneration.
