Virginio Bertoluzzi was born in Parma, Italy on the 18th July 1893.  At the time of his arrest on the 11th June 1940, he was living at 10 Abercorn Place, Marylebone, London, England with his wife Kathleen (née Boland). The couple had married in 1926.  A 1940 British document recorded that Virginio was a manufacturing agent and Kathleen was an artist’s agent.

Virginio’s time in Australia was brief as he departed Australia on the 12th December 1941.  During his time in Australia, he was accommodated at Tatura Camp 2B and Tatura Camp 4B. He was then transferred to Liverpool, Camp, New South Wales on the 28th November 1941 to await embarkation on the Largs Bay in Sydney.

The Largs Bay departed Australian on the 12th December 1941. Virginio was the sole Dunera Italian on this voyage, the other 43 internees were Protestant and Jewish German Dunera internees. Upon arrival in the UK, Virginio was re-interned and on the 15th July 1942 he was finally released from internment.

His case for return to the UK for an appearance before the Advisory Committee was an interesting one as per following letter.
