Steak cooked in brandy with cream is one of the delicacies which Liverpool theatre goers are promised when Mr Germano Molinari arrives in the city to be the chef of the New Shakespeare Theatre Club. And if steak and cream don’t appear to be on your diet chart, then I have no doubt that 55 year old Mr Molinari can offer you something rather less fattening.

He comes to Liverpool after three and a half years as chef of the Café de Paris in London and he says determinedly that he has plans to make the club the best in the country for continental and American menus.

Before his stay at the Café de Paris, he was responsible for catering at London’s Mansion House, at debutante balls, Royal Command Performances and many other London social occasions.

Before that again, he spent 20 years with the Cunard and White Lines, becoming head chef in the luxury liners.  Mrs Molinari, who will assist her husband at the club, knows the journey up to Liverpool only too well, for she frequently came up to meet her husband at the end of his voyages.

Plans which Mr Molinari will not disclose are for some entirely new dishes to add to the menus he will bring with him.  Lobster Liverpool perhaps, preceded by a little Bouillon de Bootie. (Liverpool Daily Post 7th October 1957)
