Cavaliere al Merito della Repubblica Italiana

On the 16th June 1990, 22 Italian survivors of the Arandora Star were awarded the 'Cavaliere al Merito della Repubblica Italiana' which was published in the Gazzetta Ufficial della Repubblica Italiana

Awarding of honors of the order "Of Merit of the Italian Republic".

The 50th Anniversary of the Sinking of the ‘Arandora Star’, London, 1st July 1990

Of the original 265 survivors of the ‘Arandora Star’, only 21 are still alive at the time of writing. Here, at a ceremony at the Italian Church, the able bodied were awarded, in person, the prestigious title of Cavaliere al Merito della Repubblica Italiana by the Italian government. Several from Scotland and Wales were unable to travel to attend the ceremony.
