With the escalation in the war, from Monday 3rd June 1940, the Home Office imposed a curfew on all aliens and Stateless persons over the age of 16, to be indoors between midnight and 6am for London, and elsewhere from 10.30pm to 6 am.
Individuals could apply for an exception relevant to business commitments as Gabriele' Cocozza's exception letter shows.
The Progress of War
On the 28 May 1940, the Belgian army surrendered to German forces.
The main evacuation of British troops from Norway commenced on 2 June 1940 in a major operation undertaken by the Royal Navy. The last to leave boarded H.M.S. Southampton at about 09.00 am on 8 June.
The 3rd June 1940 was the day when the last British and French troops were evacuated from Dunkirk.
Mussolini made a declaration of war against Britain and France on the 10th June 1940.
The French government departed Paris on the 10th June, and the Germans occupied the city on the 14th June 1940.
