Iginio Toffolo was born in Osera (Istria) now part of Croatia on the 13th July 1903.  A terrazzo foreman with Giaconella Ltd, he was living with his wife Olga and teenage daughter Iginia at 74 Camp Hill, Birmingham, England when he was arrested on the 10th June 1940.

Considered by the camp authorities to be an intelligent, industrious, bright type, he was a constant worker in the wood party.  His sentiments were that of a true Italian.

He was ‘released on parole’ for employment with the Civil Aliens Corps in forestry on the 16th May 1944 and was a friend to Sisto Beschizza, a London café owner.

Iginio embarked the SS Athlone Castle in Sydney on the 6th February 1945 and arrived at Liverpool, England on the 29th March 1945.  The ship’s register listed his address as 5 Victoria Crescent, Upper Norwood.  He died in Fanna (Pordenone) Italy on the 14th April 1979.
